—————————————-

Třebíč is a picturesque town in the Vysočina region, roughly halfway between Prague and Vienna and the only place in Europe with a perfectly preserved Jewish quarter.

Walking through its narrow alleyways and quirky passages will give you a feel of what the Prague’s Jewish Quarter must have been like before it was demolished at the turn of 19th and 20th century.

The second UNESCO site in Třebíč is the beautiful and architecturally unique basilica of St. Procopius.

HIGHLIGHTS
• Uniquely preserved Jewish Quarter in Třebíč
• The Rear Synagogue and the exhibition in the house of Seligman Bauer
• Stolpersteine commemorating people who perished in Holocaust.
• Basilica of St. Procopius

MEETING TIME & LOCATION
We will meet at 8:00 am on Saturday 1st of May 2019, in front of the old building of Prague Main Train Station (Fantova budova).

ITINERARY
We will travel by a privately chartered bus. The bus journey to Třebíč takes about 2 hours and 15 minutes.

First, we will go on a guided tour of the Jewish quarter with stops at various points of interest. You will see the interior of the Rear Synagogue and of the house of Seligman Bauer. The house is authentically furnished to represent the typical housing of an average Jewish household during the interwar period.

The tour takes about 90 minutes and then we will go on a short walk to the Jewish cemetery and to a viewing point overlooking Třebíč.

LUNCH: Around 13:30 we will have lunch in a nice local restaurant and artisan brewery (not included). Bring a snack/sandwich and a bottle of water so you’re not hungry/thirsty.

After lunch you’ll have roughly an hour to walk around the town on your own.

At 16:00 we will meet in front of the Basilica of St. Procopius for a 45-minute guided tour of the church.

You can expect to be back in Prague around 8:00 pm but as always, a delay is possible. Don’t plan anything important after the trip!

DIFFICULTY: Easy
(Around 4 km of walking with stairs and uneven terrain)

WHAT TO BRING WITH YOU
Wear comfortable walking shoes – you will walk on cobbled stones a lot!

An umbrella or rain coat if rain is expected. Lunch is reserved from 1:30 pm, so you will need to bring a snack/sandwich and a bottle of water.
