A Day Away: Take A Day Trip From Prague and Ski or Snowboard

With Christmas now behind us, if you’re like me, you may find yourself with a few extra days off before the New Year and in Prague, you’re certainly not at a loss for options if you wanted to stick close to home… but if you’re looking for a bit of adventure (and maybe some exercise to burn off those extra Christmas pounds or kilos), you might want to consider a ski trip.

As I’m sure you’re aware, one of the best things about The Czech Republic is its central location in Europe, so you could very easily head over to the Austrian mountains if you wanted in only a couple of hours… but there’s also some decent skiing in nearby Liberec (only about an hour or so from the center) and you can book a day trip for two for just under 4000 crowns.

Ještěd, near Liberec in the north, is the highest mountain peak on the Ještěd-Kozákov Ridge in the Czech Republic (1,012m), and from the summit there are views into Germany and Poland. Ještěd even has two professional ski jumps which hosted the 2009 World Championships.

So. Let’s say you were interested in a ski trip and you feel like 4000 crowns for two people is a fair price for a full day… what else do you get for the price?

If you can get to a local hotel in the center, you get free pick up and drop off and you’ll be driven to Ještěd in a heated mini-bus. You’ll each get a full day ski pass, access to an (English-speaking) ski instructor if you need one, a catered lunch (or dinner), and all of the ski gear is included should you need it (ski’s, poles, boots, helmet, goggles, gloves, ski pants, and even a jacket should you need one).

If snowboarding is more your thing, a snowboard, boots, helmet, goggles, gloves, snowboarding pants and jacket are all included in the price.

You can leave in the morning, beginning at 7 am, if you want to get in a full 8-9 hours on the slopes, or choose to take an afternoon trip (daily after 2pm).

There are even classes for beginners. For the same price, you get the ski pass (valid throughout the 3-hour program in the ski school area), a 2 hour lesson with a pro instructor, and an hour where you can head out on your own and practice those new skills!

See you on the slopes!
