The teen years are a time of angst, rebellion, intense hormones and important life lessons. As it is for most parents, relating to a teenage audience in theatre is hard work. We seem to forget as we grow older how difficult those impressionable years were and underestimate the social pressures and fears we had to overcome. For the past 11 years, Festival 13+ has overcome this barrier, brilliantly crafting relatable and inspiring productions that engage younger audiences (adults are welcome too).
Festival 13+ runs from the 15th to the 19th of January and takes place in the heart of Prague in Divadlo v Dlouhé. This year they will showcase six productions from theatres all across the Czech Republic and Slovakia. Admission for students is 100CZK. Unfortunately, for our non-czech speaking readers, productions are exclusively in Czech.
Amongst the many special guests featuring at the festival, is The Petr Bezrucč Theatre from Ostrava, the Dark Theatre from Hradec Králove whose production ‘The Journey’ is based on the famous novel ‘On the Road’ by Jack Kerouac.
The festival will also showcase Tereza Kovandová’s ingenious illustrations of rebellious animals navigating their way through the jungle of social media.
Tickets are available online at https://www.divadlovdlouhe.cz/ or at the box office at the Theater in Dlouhá-Dlouhá Street 39 in Prague 1.
