Getting Online: 4 Top ISPs (Internet Service Providers) in Prague

One of the great things about living in Prague is that it’s so easy to find a Wi-Fi signal, especially in the center.

Go out, turn on your phone’s Wi-Fi, and often, you can find a signal that isn’t protected by a password. Even if you can’t, the price of a cup of coffee will usually give you the password to the coffee house’s signal. Sometimes, especially if you’re rarely online, you can use this in place of having your own connection.

If, however, you need Internet access at all times, you’re going to need the right provider. The following are a few Internet providers in Prague.

UPC

UPC provides both Internet access and digital TV. Monthly download speeds are up to 100 Mb/s for CZK 499, up to 200 Mb/s for CZK 599, and up to 400 Mb/s for CZK 999. TV offers are 60 channels for CZK 299 per month, 100 channels for CZK 499 per month, and 140 channels for CZK 899 per month. Internet and TV packages can be combined, with prices starting at CZK 649 per month, continuing at CZK 899 per month, and ending at CZK 1,599 per month. The website is in Czech and English.

Airwaynet

According to the company’s website, it covers 97.2% of Prague. The site also contains a speed test, so you can check your current ISP’s connection speed. Download speeds are 4, 10, 20, and 30 Mb/s; this last plan, the highest-paid one, is CZK 590 per month. The 20 and 30 Mb/s plans come with a free Wi-Fi router. All monthly plans include VAT. The contract lasts for one year, and is not renewed automatically. All of the plans are unlimited, so the user doesn’t need to worry about downloading too much data during any one month. Installation and activation are free. Internet services are available for companies and private users. The website is in Czech and English.

Internetpraha

Like UPC, this company also offers Internet and digital TV access. An online form allows you to send in your address, so that the company can ascertain whether services are available in your area. Internet is provided through a cable or in the form of Wi-Fi. In some cases, service will be provided the following day. The three Internet packages provide 20 Mb/s download speed for CZK 399 per month, 50 Mb/s for CZK 449 per month, and 80 Mb/s for CZK 549 per month. A TV plus Internet package is offered for CZK 798 per month. The website is in English, Czech, German, and Russian.

WIA

WIA has an ADSL connection with a download speed of 8 Mb/s for CZK 399 per month, as well as VDSL connections with download speeds of 20 Mb/s (CZK 449 per month), 50 Mb/s (CZK 499 per month), and 100 Mb/s (CZK 599 per month).
