Stream International’s Honest Guide series on YouTube, created by Honza Mikulka & Janek Rubeš, has become known for saving the city’s tourists from scams and ripoffs in the Czech capital that include unscrupulous taxi drivers and exchange offices. But Honest Guide also Prague’s visitors some insight into cool places they might not otherwise know about, and this week takes them on a tour of the top secret places hidden away right in Prague’s city center. Among those: beloved beer garden U Pinkasů, just off Wenceslas Square and adjacent to the Franciscan Gardens (Františkánská zahrada), which is a genuinely cool favorite among locals during the summer months. Also on Wenceslas Square: Šachový Václavák, a terrace café that overlooks the Franciscan Gardens inside the Hotel Juliš building. Off the Square and down Vodičkova is Langhans Gallery, which is not just a gallery but also a lovely courtyard café where you can have a coffee and take in some of art. Another terrace café inside of the Academia Bookshop overlooks Wenceslas Square but remains free from crowds. And lastly, even if you don’t need to send a postcard, Prague’s historic main post office on Jindřišská is genuinely worth taking in.
