160 000 CZK, an equivalent to AUD 10,000 has been sent in foreign aid to Australia to protect the nations natural fauna and flora from the devastation caused by the bush fires. The money raised by Prague Zoo is going directly to the Bushfire Emergency Wildlife Fund managed by Zoos Victoria.
The donation comes from the three crowns from each entrance fee to Prague Zoo.
“After the experience with the floods at Prague Zoo, we know full well that any help – no matter how small – means a lot to those affected. The tragic nature of the Australian fires is immense,” said Miroslav Bobek, director of Prague Zoo.
Australia is burning, and it is only the beginning of summer. The country is being ravaged by the worst bushfire season it has ever experienced. More than 10 million hectares of Australian land has been devastated by the fires, an area larger than the Czech Republic itself. University of Sydney experts estimate that around 1.25 billion animals have been killed, including a third of the koala population. At least 23 people have lost their lives and a total of 2,000 homes have been lost.
Prague Zoo is offering you the opportunity to help the endangered fauna of Australia by means of Prague Zoo’s public collection “We Help Them to Survive”.
