Here’s what that light might indicate and how to resolve it.
Why Is Your AirPod Case Flashing Orange?
The different coloured lights on your AirPods case serve as indicators for various statuses. For instance, a solid green light means the case is fully charged, while a flashing white light signals that it is in pairing mode. However, the orange (sometimes called amber) light can point to a few specific issues:
- Solid orange with AirPods in the case: This means the AirPods are currently charging inside the case.
- Solid orange without AirPods in the case: This could indicate that the case itself doesn’t have enough charge left to fully recharge your AirPods.
- Flashing orange: A blinking orange light suggests that there may be a problem with the pairing process between the AirPods and the audio device, such as your phone or computer.
Steps to Fix the Orange Light Issue
If you see the orange light on your AirPods case, follow these steps to resolve the issue.
1. Let Your AirPods Charge
If the orange light is solid, it simply means that either your AirPods or the case is charging, likely with a low battery level. In this case, you just need to let both devices charge longer. Over time, the orange light should disappear. If it’s flashing, proceed to the next steps.
2. Reset and Reconnect Your AirPods
Sometimes, the flashing orange light indicates a connection or pairing issue. To fix this, you can reset and reconnect your AirPods to your device by following these steps:
- Place your AirPods inside their charging case and close the lid. Wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone and navigate to Bluetooth.
- Find your AirPods in the list of Bluetooth devices and tap the “i” icon next to their name.
- Select “Forget This Device.”
- Open the AirPods case lid and hold the setup button on the back of the case for 15 seconds. The light should flash orange and then white.
- Go back to your iPhone’s Bluetooth settings and wait for the AirPods to appear as a new device. Tap on them to connect.

To clean your AirPods, you can use 70% isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs, and toothpicks. Dampen a cotton swab with the alcohol and gently clean both the AirPods and the inside of the case. Use the toothpick to remove any stubborn dirt or gunk. Be careful not to damage the AirPods while cleaning.
